The extensive horizontal sprawl of infrastructure, goods and population in the contemporary Asian City must be confronted. Taking Tokyo as a case study, we address this situation and seek an alternative to the thin and inefficient distribution of resources. Using super high-rise technology we propose a vertical and porous city of intensified complexity and density.
Our plan incorporates open spaces as essential elements of continued growth and spontaneous use of the 'Three-Dimensional City' in the long term. The model allows for renewal and regeneration, as an alternative to redevelopment within the current 'scrap and build' cycle. This new Cityscape grows from an aggregate of essential infrastructures, structural and transportation networks, creating a city that allows an incremental accretion of complexity. It draws from parallel technologies such as marine and transportation architecture, with which it links itself in creating a new image of the City.
