Chemistry of Chiral Molecules
Go to JAPANESE
contents

A chiral molecule is defined as a molecule lacking a plane of symmetry. Bioactive ones among others have been valuably used as medicines, or biological tools in bioscience. Chiral molecules have been also utilized as materials for ferroelectric liquid crystals, chiral ligands of catalysts, biodegradable polymers, and the like. Thus, various developments of chiral molecules are expected in future for their great potential.
We have been graced with such artificial materials, but we have also sustained their untold mischief such as damage from medicines or environmental pollution. Hence, the design, synthesis, and development of chiral molecules must be executed quite carefully today.
We propose our project as the basic research on the design, synthesis, and development of beneficial but harmless chiral molecules with due consideration for the conservation of resources and the protection of environment. Consequently we are investigating the rational design, exact synthesis, and novel application of chiral molecules beyond social demands.
